September 7, 2010: I spent Labor Day weekend at Brian’s in College Station. When I came back, Uni was HUGE!!

However, I changed Uni’s water in the middle of a molt, and he died. :<

Luckily, my rebate packet of triops came in the mail today! So this time, I can hatch even more triops!
September 2, 2010: Uni had a really neat looking molt yesterday! i picked it out of the tank hoping to get a good picture of it, but when i pulled it out it was slimey and had the consistency of egg whites…

here’s the molt on black paper. you can see how slimey it is

and here’s my clearest picture of Uni yet!

August 31, 2010: i think Uni devoured Upsy because i did not see Upsy in the tank :< i changed out all of Uni’s water today, and in the process smushed Uni a little bit. He had troubles swimming for a while, but now he looks okay. I would be devastated if I accidentally killed him!

I also fed Uni a full-sized pellet today, and you can see him grabbing the food with his legs

August 30, 2010: i was researching future possible fish to get in my 5 gallon tank when i happened to see a picture of brine shrimp. i do suspect that Upsy is not a triops but rather a brine shrimp!! it’s difficult to get a picture of him, but i tried.
these are brine shrimp:

this is Uni, who is getting pretty big (about 1 cm):

and this is Uni (circled in red) with Upsy (circled in blue). i couldn’t get a clearer picture because my camera has a hard time auto focusing through water:

August 29, 2010: just as i had feared, the larger triops have consumed the baby triops :<however, that mean i have two really big triops! brian and i have christened them Uni and Upsy.

August 27, 2010: realize there are MANY triops growing!! however there are two triops that are obviously larger than the others, and i’m fearful for the babies’ lives…

August 26, 2010: realize there is a triops growing!

August 24, 2010: set up triops tank
